The CVS Service was announced as being in maintenance mode at the IT Technical Users Meeting in February 2011 as it has been replaced by the SVN service. This message has been repeated several times since.
Users have been expected over this period to move their repositories completely out of CVS to SVN or some other version control system.
By special agreement, only CMS should be still using CVS in 2013 and they also will be moving out by June, taking advantage of the LHC long shutdown.
To implement the closure of CVS we will be restricting access to only leave the CMS repositories available and any other existing users should immediately move their data out of CVS otherwise they may lose access to the files.
The Central SVN service has been available in production for some years, and replaces CVS. Furthermore, the CVS system is obsolete, and there are no security patches or updates to the CVS software.
