Upgrade of the default Oracle client version for Linux 32&64 bits clients using the AFS Oracle distribution

The current default  (v10.2.0.5) Oracle client version installed in AFS (/afs/cern.ch/project/oracle/linux(64)/prod) will be replaced with the latest 11.2.0.3 release.

The intervention will start at 8:0am 10-Dec-2012 and will last a couple of minutes.

It will only affect users who point to this default version when setting ORACLE_HOME =/afs/cern.ch/project/oracle/linux/prod or /afs/cern.ch/project/oracle/linux64/prod. This path is simply a symbolic link pointing to (currently) 10205. So, basicaly, the intervention changes the symbolic link to point to 11203.

If you are already pointing directly to 11.2.0.3  or 10.2.0.5 using the setoraenv script :

setoranev -s 11203   => ORACLE_HOME= /afs/cern.ch/project/oracle/linux/11203  

 setoraenv -s 10205 => ORACLE_HOME= /afs/cern.ch/project/oracle/linux/10205

Then you will NOTsee any difference and you will continue to work with the same releases. This change will not affect you.

However please note that in 2013 we shall remove (around April)  the 10.2.0.5 releases from AFS and only the releases 11.2.0.3 or greater will be available. When this happens either you need to change explicitly to 11203, or use the default.
